Welcome to Yoga Roots, we just moved to a beautiful location in the new development of Sorgenfri in central Malmö. At yoga roots you can seclude yourself from the outside world so that you can really focus on what’s important – you.
We offer a variety of classes – from different styles of yoga, to pilates and barre classes. We are also the first place in Skåne to offer Aerial Yoga classes, and are so excited to share our different concepts with you – all in one location in Malmö. Our goal is to provide a full body & mind health experience – where you can sweat one day, and then relax and rejuvenate your mind and body on another.
The studio is run by two international women, Bethany & Tess, and all classes are taught in English. We are so proud to be the only purely international yoga studio in Skåne. Are you an expat or an international yogi looking for a second home? We hope you find a home in our international community here 🙂
Everyone is welcome at the studio – no matter your experience or background. Warm welcome to our hidden space.
the teachers: founders of yoga roots
Bethany holds an E-RYT 200 hour yoga certification, as well as specialized trainined as a certified prenatal yoga teacher, aerial yoga instructor, and yin yoga teacher. She is the Swedish ambassador for Manduka Yoga and Liquido Active. Bethany is originally from the US and now living and teaching in Sweden. Her background is in coaching and competing in extreme watersports, and then transitioned into working in a corporate career, while at the same time discovering her love for yoga. This unique combination allows Bethany to bring a distinctive approach to her yoga teachings. She brings influences from international mentors, a diverse education and travel experiences, to create a unique style for her classes and programs.
Bethany teaches in a way that provokes thought, meaning and motivation, which guides students to push themselves to find their “edge” with their own yoga practice. She teaches from an alignment-based focus, stemming from her experience recovering from multiple injuries over the years, which motivated her to study about proper postural alignment and injury prevention. These experiences gave Bethany a better understanding of body awareness and sustainable movement practices, which she brings into her teachings. Her classes are challenging, both physically and mentally, and include demonstrations, hands on assistance and uplifting music. Bethany teaches Vinyasa, Slow Flow & Yin, and Aerial Yoga classes with us at Yoga Roots.
Tess fell in love with movement and the construction of the body at the age of six. She was playing tennis, dancing and swimming every day of the week. Tess discovered yoga for the first time when she was fifteen. It was the beginning of the longest love story of her life and she has been inseparable ever since. Today, 16 years later after many travels, various countries, 12 years abroad in Italy and years of trying the different faces of yoga, as well as many different types of exercise and dancing, Tess is teaching what she has always loved and what has always been with her.
What drove Tess to start teaching yoga full time was after the practice helped her to overcome a personal trauma. She had emotional scars so deep there didn’t seem to be any real cure. Through yoga, and especially through restorative yoga, she finally put the pieces back together. Tess truly believes yoga to be an incredibly powerful tool to restore and heal both body and mind.
The core foundation of her practice and teachings is a combination of my experience with the different branches of yoga and exercise, combined with my immense passion for physiotherapy, psychology and movement therapy. Tess teaches Yin Yoga, Yin Yang Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Aerial Yoga Body Restruct & Pilates classes with us at Yoga Roots.
